Mentorship, Momentum, and the Power of Safe Conversations

There’s a moment in every leader’s journey when self-doubt sneaks in.
For me, it came while I was leading a nonprofit through a particularly difficult period. I had the title. I had the responsibility. But inside, I was questioning my own ability. It’s what some now call “imposter syndrome”—the quiet unraveling of confidence that happens when we believe we’re not enough, even when we are.
In that moment, what I needed most wasn’t a training or a strategy.I needed a safe place to say out loud the story I was telling myself. I needed to hear the real stories from other women who had hesitated—who had stumbled and grown and made it through.
That safe space came through the Women Presidents Organization. As a member and later a Chapter Chair, I was surrounded by women leaders who didn’t just share their successes—they shared the messy middle. And in that space, something remarkable happened: my limiting beliefs began to shift. I started to lead from a place of clarity and confidence, not just competence.
That’s the power of mentoring.
It’s why I’m thrilled to help launch a new regional initiative this fall:Scaling for Impact: A Peer-Led Growth Series A series of gatherings designed to support Capital Region women entrepreneurs—especially those still scaling toward their first million.
Our first event on September 18th in Latham, NY will feature stories from remarkable women who’ve walked the path of growth, including navigating sales, franchises, and M&A. But more than that, we’re creating a space for honest conversation, generous mentoring, and meaningful relationships.
Because leadership grows in safe conversations. And growth begins when we stop trying to prove ourselves and start listening to ourselves.
If you’re building something—or dreaming about what’s next—I hope you’ll join us.
