What are your plans for the 4th of July?
It's an awesome day to be mindful of all our blessings and be present with your spare moments.
"Guard well your spare moments.
They are like uncut diamonds.
Discard them and their value
will never be known.
Improve them and they will
become the brightest gems
in a useful life."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Presence is a state available to all of us at any moment.
Doug Silsbee offers two exercises to experience presence and I think the 4th of July offers lots of opportunities to practice presence.
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Relax. Notice the short space between your thoughts, there is a moment of stillness. Bring your attention to the stillness. That moment, between thoughts, is presence.
Sit in front of something that moves you... look for this experience on the 4th. Close your eyes and visualize it. Consider what it means to you, concentrate on the image. NOW slowly open your eyes, and look at the object as if you were seeing it for the first time. Simple let yourself feel, with freshness and curiosity. What did you notice, what did you feel? That's presence.
I would love to hear about your experience with these two exercises. Share you thoughts in our Contact form.
