I love this quote by Roosevelt, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
In this busy world, we need to slow down just enough to be aware of what we are doing and why. In coaching sessions we introduce practices to help with this awareness. Once we have slowed down just enough to be more aware of our choices, then we can explore how to do what we can with what we have, where we are.
It is in the exploration of ourselves and how we respond to the world where we can gain new insights. We can find small life choices where we can apply a new perspective. One of my favorite awareness practice is Martin Seligman’s Theory of Wellbeing. We can check in on our wellbeing in five elements; Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Achievement.
PERMA is a great practice to ask ourselves, 'How am I doing with what I have and where I am?' We have choices everyday that we make to lead our own wellbeing. Pausing to check-in on the five elements gives us a tool to be aware, then we can explore how we can make other choices to improve our wellbeing day-by-day.
