Summer Pause

I’ve been thinking a lot about porches lately.
There’s something sacred about a porch in summer. It invites stillness, offers a front-row seat to the world unfolding, and reminds us we don’t always need to be in motion to be moving forward.
Sometimes the most important leadership practice is learning how to pause — to sit in the space between doing and deciding, to listen before we act, to simply be.
This month, I’m noticing how that space shows up in small ways: a few extra minutes with tea in hand, the breeze brushing across the porch, Harley lying nearby. These moments don’t always announce themselves, but they hold surprising wisdom when we let them linger.
I wrote more about this in my July Ripples of Leadership newsletter — a reflection on summer slowness, sacred pauses, and a backyard moment with Harley that reminded me what love looks like.
At the end, you’ll find a tool to help you reconnect with your own vision of a well-lived life. Consider it your personal invitation to grab a notebook, step outside, and give yourself permission to rock for a while.
What might you hear in the pause?
