Walking to Create

In Praise of Walking: A New Scientific Exploration by Shane O’Mara is a great book to understand the recent research on the benefits of walking.

"Studies show that regular walking mobilizes changes in the structure of our brain that can increase volume in the areas associated with learning and memory. Walking seems capable of shaking us out of old ruminations and opening up the possibility of new potential and patterns of thought."

Studies prove a 10 minute walk before an activity increases our creativity. A short walk anytime of the day will allow you to reset and think again.

This quote really resonates with me:

“Walking brings me back to myself.” – Laurette Mortimer

As I age my awareness of the positive impact of walking in my life is expanding. Walking continues to support my creativity, helps me shift thought patterns and provides time to just be with nature.

What have you experienced with a short 10 minute walk? How is walking currently improving your life? We are living in such uncertain times with so many different external inputs, maybe a short walk will support your ability to create.
